About the project

Photonics and quantum technologies are essential to Europe's technological future. While Europe has a strong research position in these fields, turning scientific breakthroughs into successful market applications remains a challenge.

Fragmented innovation ecosystems, limited access to specialised infrastructure, funding and skilled talent often prevent promising technologies from reaching their full potential.

The five-year European PIONEER project aims to overcome these barriers by connecting regional innovation ecosystems across Europe. By bringing together research institutions, businesses, investors and policymakers, PIONEER will strengthen collaboration, facilitate knowledge exchange and accelerate the commercialisation of innovative photonics and quantum solutions.

The project focuses on connecting regional expertise, improving access to research infrastructure and talent, and supporting joint innovation activities. Ultimately, PIONEER aims to strengthen Europe's global competitiveness, technological sovereignty and position in the photonics and quantum sectors.

Wederic's role

As a project partner, Wederic contributes to the development of a shared European vision for the PIONEER innovation ecosystem.

Our activities include mapping regional strengths, capabilities and opportunities within the photonics and quantum sectors. Through strategic foresight sessions with representatives from industry, academia, government and civil society, we help establish a common vision that aligns regional innovation strategies with emerging technological and societal developments.

By contributing our expertise in innovation strategy and European collaboration, we support PIONEER in building a stronger, more connected European innovation ecosystem.
